Day 1 - Music

Good morning! It's the first full day of my sabbatical and I was up at 6:50 AM, thanks to a little fellow named Walker. Saturday is Mary's day to sleep in, so Walker and I brushed our teeth, ate some breakfast, and watched a little Dora the Explorer (Daisy is having a party).

Song of the Day: J'Ai Vu Le Loup, Le Renard Et La Belette by Balfa Brothers

So what the meaning behind the song of the day? I'm not sure. All I know is that most days I wake up with a song in my head. It's probably a mild case of OCD or ADD, but this morning it was "J'ai Vu Le Loup, Le Renard, Et La Belette" that was running through my head. Translation is "I saw the wolf, the fox, and the Weasel". Good song though - they aren't always - nice Cajun tune by a real classic Cajun band. So check it out if you are inclined. Which brings us to our second music topic of the day.

Rhapsody - Rhapsody is a music service, are there are quite a few out there, but this one has completely sucked me in. Basically it is a music library with over 1,000,000 songs available anytime. The normal service costs $8.83/month, but what that gets you is the ability to play any song any time. Now, they don't have everything in their library, Tool and Minor Threat are notable exceptions, but for less than half the price of a CD I can listen to the Balfa Brothers, Iggy Pop, G-Love, U2, The Clancy Brothers, and Chris Rock anytime. It's been a real boon for discovering new stuff and rediscovering old classics (when was the last time you listened to The Alarm?). FREE - 14 day trial!! That's right, you can sign up for 14 free days of unlimited toons so at least check it out and have fun with a two trip through a musical playground.

Third music topic of the day: http://www.crawfishfest.com/ . If you live in or around New York City, there is a big Louisiana music and food fair out in Sussex County, NJ this weekend. The highlight today is The Meters. Tomorrow Buckwheat Zydeco is playing. Thanks to Adam Schatz for hipping me to that party.
